Cooperative Living for Active Seniors
Frequently Asked Questions
There are many misconceptions when it comes to senior cooperative living. Below you'll find the answers to some of our commonly asked questions.

Q: Do you offer meal service?
A: No, Realife Cooperative is a 100% independent living housing complex. However, our members do order meals from services like Meals on Wheels, Hot Meals on Wheels, Mom's Meals etc.
Q: Do you have medical professionals on staff?
A: No, Realife Cooperative is a 100% independent living housing complex. The only staff at the building is a Property Manager and a Maintenance Technician. However, if you have a condition that requires medical assistance, you may hire your own personal care professionals to come to your home at your expense.
Q: Do you offer cleaning services for my apartment?
A: No, Realife Cooperative is a 100% independent living housing complex. If you need assistance cleaning your apartment, you are more than welcome to hire a housekeeper.
Q: Do you offer planned activities?
A: We do have an Activities Committee run by volunteer members who live in the building. They plan monthly catered dinner parties and birthday and anniversary celebrations. There are also card clubs, game nights and BINGO.
Q: Is there a washer and dryer in each apartment?
A: No, due to insurance issues, we do not offer units with those appliances. We do have 6 laundry rooms throughout the building that are accessible 24 hours a day.
Q: How long does it take to get a share unit in the building?
A: That's a tough question to answer! Our waiting list is very fluid. Its dependent on the size of the share unit you are looking for and how quickly you are able to relocate. We have some people who have been on the list for several years and some for only a few months. Once your name comes up, we call you and let you know about the share unit available. You have a very short window of time to come and view the share unit and make your decision. Once you decide that you do want the share unit, we ask for $1000 in earnest money and we schedule your closing within 1 to 2 months.
Q: Do you offer financing?
A: No, you are buying a membership in the cooperative, not personal property or real estate.
Q: What do you mean by "share unit"?
A: When you become a member of our cooperative, you are buying a membership share in the building. Your unit is your share.
